PlayStation®2 Midnight Blue (SCPH-50000 MB/NH)
Il 14 maggio 2003, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) annunciò la speciale e limitata PlayStation 2 "Midnight Blue" (SCPH-50000 MB/NH). Si trattava del bundle "PlayStation BB Unit (40GB esterno)" con PlayStation 2 in edizione limitata caratterizzata da una colorazione esclusiva "Blu Notte".
All'interno della confezione erano inclusi dunque oltre alla console limitata anche un controller DualShock 2 e lo Stand Verticale dello stesso colore e il Network Adaptor (SCPH-10350) più un Hard Disk Drive interno da 40GB oltre al BB Navigator software v0.30.
Questo Pack è stato rilasciato il 12 giugno 2003 per 35.000 ¥. In seguito ha visto due riduzioni di prezzo. La prima il 13 Nov 2003 a ¥ 29.800 e la seconda il 3 Novembre 2004 a ¥ 24.800.
Il 4 novembre del 2003, oltre al taglio di prezzo per PlayStation 2, che passò da 25,000 yen a 19,800 yen, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) annunciò la nuova colorazione standard "Midnight Black" per PlayStation 2. La PlayStation 2 Midnight Black [SCPH-50000 NB] andava dunque a sostituire il nero classico di PS2 con uno semi trasparente. Tuttavia, questo colore inizialmente previsto come standard, venne dismesso ad appena un anno dalla sua commercializzazione, avvenuta il 13 Novembre 2003 a ¥19.800. Con questo modello, il consumo di energia era sceso da 39W a 32W.

(SCEI) responsible for business operations in Japan, announced today that the recommended retail price of PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system will be reduced from 25,000 yen (excluding tax), to 19,800 yen (excluding tax) beginning November 13th, 2003. Along with this new price setting, the standard color of PlayStation 2 will change to “Midnight Black”, a translucent color based on the original black model.
PlayStation 2 continues to spread widely around the world, achieving shipments of more than 14.2 million units in Japan and 62 million worldwide, and it is reaffirming its position as the standard entertainment platform in the home. A wide array of attractive and exciting first and third party titles, such as Minna No Golf 4 (SCEJ), Gran turismo®4 “Prologue Version” (SCEJ) and Ratchet & Clank®2 Ga Ga Ga! Ginga No Komando-su, (SCEJ) and BIO HAZARD® OUT BREAK (CAPCOM CO.,LTD.), Romance of The Three Kingdoms IX (KOEI Co., Ltd), J.LEAGUE Winning Eleven Tactics (Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo,Inc.), FRONT MISSION 4 (SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD.), Kunoichi (SEGA Corporation), FATAL FRAME2 (TECMO,LTD.), TAIKONOTATSUJIN WAKUWAKUANIMEMATSURI (NAMCO LIMITED), and MOBILE SUIT Z GUNDAM A.E.U.G. vs. TITANS (BANDAI CO.,LTD.) will become available for this holiday season.
Along with the color change of PlayStation 2, separately sold Analog Controller DUALSHOCK®2 and Vertical Stand (for PlayStation 2) will also become available in the same color.
By setting a new hardware price towards the year-end/New Year holiday peakselling season, SCEJ aims to activate consumer demands and broaden PlayStation 2 audience furthermore.
With PlayStation® and PlayStation 2, SCEJ will create and develop a new world of computer entertainment for the broadband era through the fusion of game, music, movies, and broadcasting.
